Picking The Perfect Pumpkins and Gourds

We finally had some weather that actually felt like fall this weekend and I couldn't be happier. I think I had been waiting a month and a half to wear this top I snagged from J.Crew Factory for $20 when it was on sale. It was windy and cold and I loved every second of it! One of my favorite fall activities is heading to local farm stands. I'm always so inspired by the rich colors and perfectly imperfect pumpkins and gourds. I always take my time to look at all of them thoroughly until I find the ones that speak to me. I put together five quick tips to help you on your pumpkin picking journey this fall:

  • 1. Don't forget to pick out some for inside! I don't just decorate the exterior for fall and Halloween. I love it so much I want to be able to see it inside for myself to enjoy so I like scattering things all around the house. Mini pumpkins and gourds are great for tablescapes!

  • 2. If you're looking for the most "perfect" looking pumpkins and gourds look in the front where they are on display, that's where they tend to put them. But take your time, some of the best ones that have character and charm are hidden and waiting for you to find them.

  • 3. Watch out for soft spots! You want your pumpkins to last as long as possible.

  • 4. Share the joy of fall and grab mini pumpkins for your friends and/or family. They make an adorable little gift!

  • 5. Don't hold your pumpkins by the stem! It's not a handle and it can break. Sometimes the stem is the coolest part of the pumpkin so you don't want it to break off.

Do you like going to farm stands? What do you look for when you go picking out pumpkins? Let me know down in the comments!
